WHEN NATO CBRN MEETS EOD, UNITY BECOMES CAPABILITY

From 19–23 October 2026, the NATO EOD Centre of Excellence (EOD COE) conducted the CBRN EOD IM SOT course, the latest in its series of NATO-approved training courses. Beyond the successful delivery of the training, the course provided an important opportunity to reinforce cooperation between the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) communities.

A total of 14 participants from nine NATO Allied and partner nations — the Czech Republic, Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Türkiye, Belgium and Slovakia — attended the course. All participants successfully passed, meeting the Education and Individual Training assessment standards established within the NATO EOD COE Quality Assurance framework.

A significant contribution came from selected Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from the Joint Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence Centre of Excellence (JCBRN Defence COE), the Belgian EOD Group, and other contributing organizations. Their specialist knowledge and operational experience significantly strengthened CBRN–EOD cooperation throughout the training, fostering a shared understanding of the challenges associated with CBRN EOD incidents. By combining complementary expertise and operational perspectives, the course equipped participants with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to effective response in complex operational environment.

The NATO EOD COE extends its sincere appreciation to all participants, contributing SMEs, and partner organizations for their continued support. The successful completion of this course represents another step towards stronger CBRN–EOD cooperation, improved operational coordination, and enhanced protection against complex threats in multinational environments. The excellent and continuously evolving cooperation with partner organizations strengthens professional ties and provides a solid foundation for future joint training and capability development.
