From 24 MAR to 26 MAR 2026, the Military Engineering Centre of Excellence (MILENG CoE) hosted the Combined Annual Discipline Conference (CADC) in Ingolstadt, Germany. The conference brought together three key disciplines to address Education and Training (E&T) solutions for capability gaps identified by SHAPE and the respective Requirements Authority (RA). During the event, LTC Alexander HUGYAR, PhD, and 1LT Erik KOSAR represented the NATO EOD COE, contributing to the MILENG and Counter-IED (C-IED) disciplines with specialized Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) field of expertise.
The conference agenda included a comprehensive revision of the Discipline Alignment Plan, which outlines the framework for E&T opportunities, including programmes, courses, and seminars, across Education and Training Facilities (ETFs). Additionally, the event provided a valuable platform for strengthening functional relationships among ETFs, Allied Command Transformation /Multi-Domain Force Development, disciplines’ RA, and Department Heads (DHs). This coordination supports the efficient synchronization of efforts and optimal use of resources, in line with NATO’s guiding principle:
“To provide E&T to the right people, at the right place, at the right time, in the most efficient and affordable way.”
The CADC was particularly significant due to the revision of Course Control Documents (CCDs), which are valid for a three-year cycle (2026–2029). Following the conference, all NATO EOD COE CCDs for NATO-Approved courses were successfully reviewed and formally endorsed by SHAPE MILENG RA, the MILENG DH, and the Centre’s courses Officer of Primary Responsibility. Apart from, the Centre’s reflection of the NATO’s approach in Global programming, signing the CCDs gives a confidence in the adequacy of the courses’ curricula by enhancing NATO’s interoperability efforts through E&T.
