The Hungarian Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Riverine Guard Regiment recently celebrated its 80th anniversary in a special ceremony. This event served as a testament to the unit's long and distinguished history, honoring decades of service and dedication.
The celebration was attended by several notable guests from the NATO EOD Centre of Excellence (COE), highlighting the strong partnership and professional ties between the two organizations. Attendees from the NATO COE included the Centre's Director COL František MIHALOVIČ, SVK(A); Chief of Staff COL Zsolt Szilágyi, HUN(A); Head of the Training Department LTC Alexander Hugyár, SVK(A); and a non-commissioned officer from the Technology Department, WO Gábor Korom HUN(A). On behalf of the NATO EOD COE, the Director presented a memorial plaque to Colonel László Lengyel, commander of the Hungarian Defence Forces' EOD and River Flotilla Regiment.
A key part of the ceremony was a wreath-laying, a solemn act of remembrance honoring those who have served and sacrificed for the regiment over the past 80 years. This event acknowledged the courage and commitment of the soldiers who are on the front line, conducting life-saving missions, and rendering safe explosive threats.
